Taco Bell is now facing a lawsuit for false advertising. According to Reuters, Taco Bell will be going to court over accusations from a New York City man that many of the items on the fast food restaurant’s menu don’t come with as much filling as photos in the advertisements.
The man, Frank Siragusa, filed the class-action lawsuit on Monday (July 31), claiming that Taco Bell is deceiving its customers by falsely advertising that menu items like its Mexican Pizza and Crunchwrap Supreme contain “at least double” the ingredients compared to what customers actually get.
In the lawsuit, Siragusa included Taco Bell ads featuring food brimming with beef, cheese, and veggies alongside other less-enticing photos of the same menu items that customers ordered in real life and posted online.
The lawsuit states that the fast food chain’s ads are “unfair and financially damaging to consumers” and that the alleged false advertising is “especially concerning now that inflation, food, and meat prices are very high and many consumers, especially lower-income consumers, are struggling financially.”
One of Siragusa’s lawyers, Anthony Russo, added: “Taco Bell does not adequately disclose the weight of the beef or filling. Plaintiff did not make any purchases of the product based on any weight disclosure but solely based on the picture of the product, as we believe most consumers do.”
In the past, Siragusa has filed lawsuits against McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and Burger King over the size of their burgers compared to what the fast food restaurants advertise. Those lawsuits are in different stages of the judicial process.
