Julio Rodríguez set a record this past weekend, having four consecutive four-plus-hit games. In those games, he had 17 hits overall. In addition, he has helped his Seattle Mariners win six straight games, catapulting them right back into the playoff hunt by reclaiming the third seed in the race.
Rodríguez’s record four-game streak did not come out of nowhere. He is hitting a scorching .569 over his last seven games, .465 in his last 15 games, and has blasted eight home runs in his last 30 games. Rodríguez has been so hot on this run that it has changed his season numbers astronomically.
After winning the 2022 Rookie of the Year and putting on a terrific performance at the 2023 Home Run Derby, nobody worries about Rodríguez having a sophomore slump. His overall numbers may be slightly under his rookie season, but he is getting hot at just the right time for the Mariners.
For Rodríguez, born in Loma de Cabrera in the Dominican Republic, the record was just another day at the office trying to help his team. “Honestly, I knew when they put it on the scoreboard that I had set a record for a four-game span,” Rodríguez said according to ESPN. “Before that, I didn’t know.”
Mariners manager Scott Servais has been enjoying this other-worldly performance from Rodríguez. “Julio is just smoking hot right now and it is fun to watch,” Servais said. “Every time up there he expects to get a hit, we expect to watch him get a hit.”
The Mariners and Rodríguez are hitting their stride just before the last playoff push, and we cannot wait to see what this young talent does next.
