Is Britney Spears exploring the Latine music market next? Last night (Oct. 11), the pop icon was spotted hanging out with Colombian superstars J Balvin and Maluma.
Spears is no stranger to Latine music. Unfortunately, her most recent collaborations in that market weren’t officially released. Before the song “Hey Ma” was released on the The Fate of the Furious soundtrack in 2017, she was actually featured on the original version with Romeo Santos and Pitbull. Santos and Spears were replaced by J Balvin and Camila Cabello. A year later, she recorded “I Feel So Free With You” with Marc Anthony and Pitbull when the latter was opening her Piece of Me tour. That collaboration was nixed as well.
Maybe J Balvin and Maluma could be successful in helping Spears release her next Latine collaboration. According to Page Six, both artists spotted Spears at Zero Bond in New York City. They invited her over and enjoyed a sushi meal dinner together. Spears reportedly talked with them about music and her memoir The Woman in Me, which is coming out on Oct. 24. A photo surfaced later online of the three artists hanging out last night.
Spears’ fans, especially her Colombian ones, are excited about the prospect of her working with J Balvin and Maluma. “Britney Spears dancing like Shakira with her knives, partying with Maluma, hugging with J Balvin,” wrote one person on X (formerly Twitter). “Let her come here to Colombia to save it and move it forward.” Another person wrote, “Britney Spears ft Maluma, J Balvin. Biggest song of the year incoming i fear.”
In the meantime, Spears showed love to Dominican-American singer Willie Gomez this week when he auditioned for The Voice. Her former backup dancer wowed the judges while singing Manuel Turizo’s hit “La Bachata.” After turning all four judges’ chairs, Gomez joined John Legend’s team.
