After wrapping up a sold-out world tour, Ricardo Arjona will be saying goodbye to performing for good. Yesterday (Dec. 11), the Guatemalan pop icon announced that he’s retiring from music.

Arjona returned to the music scene in 2021 with two albums titled Blanco and Negro. When artists could start touring again after the COVID-19 pandemic, Arjona kicked off his Blanco y Negro: Volver World Tour in 2022. Due to popular demand, the tour was extended into this year, performing in 115 cities and 22 countries, including the U.S. Because of his health issues, Arjona had to reschedule and cancel some concerts during the tour’s run.

In one of his last concerts in Argentina, Arjona opened up about the health issues he was facing on the tour. He revealed that he went through six spinal infiltrations to be able to keep performing. “These last two months were worse than any other,” he said in Spanish. “After six spinal infiltrations, I am here and I’m standing.”

Arjona finally wrapped up the Blanco y Negro: Volver World Tour on Dec. 10 at the Estadio Bicentenario La Florida in Chile. After finishing that last concert, he thanked the fans for their support and revealed his retirement plans in an Instagram post.

“To the doctors who got me on my feet so I could finish this journey by postponing an imminent surgery, thank you very much,” he wrote. “I have had six spinal infiltrations in the last two months to be able to stand and say farewell. My name is Ricardo. Those who love me call me Seco, and I’m happier and more fulfilled than ever, although with an ailment that will soon be history. I say goodbye and thank you with all my heart.”

Arjona added that he is not sure if his retirement will be definite. After he recovers from his health issue, he said that he would have to find a good reason to return to the stage. If that doesn’t happen, Arjona is content to keep enjoying his retirement.
