Almost two decades from the day those miracle pants traveled between them in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel, Blake Lively, and Amber Tamblyn reunited in New York for a special screening of Barbie sponsored by SAG-AFTRA.
The four actresses would go on to star in a sequel to the 2005 movie, aptly titled The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, in 2008. They have remained close since they first came together in a movie that became popular as a celebration of friendship.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is an adaptation of the 2001 novel by Ann Brashares. It follows four friends who buy one mysterious pair of jeans that just so happens to fit all of them and decide to send the jeans back and forth between each other as they spend their first summer apart.
Ferrera has been getting some awards buzz for her role of Gloria in Barbie, which prompted her former co-stars to come together to support her. The former Ugly Betty star, who has recently discussed the possibility of returning to that iconic role, will probably not revisit her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants character, but that doesn’t mean she cannot revisit the friendships that the movie gifted her.
“Pants = Love. Love your sisters. Love yourself.” Blake Lively said in an Instagram post celebrating Ferrera.
“The sisterhood came through all in pink to celebrate my performance in Barbie last night. I love these women with all my heart,” Ferrera herself said in an Instagram post, with a picture of the entire sisterhood.
America Ferrera is set to receive the 8th annual SeeHer Award at this year’s Critics Choice Awards. The SeeHer Award honors women who advocate for gender equality, portray characters with authenticity, defy stereotypes, and push boundaries.
