Sara Ramirez, who played the controversial character Che Diaz on the first two seasons of the HBO series And Just Like That, won’t be returning for a third according to various reports. Now, fans are wondering if Ramirez’s departure was triggered by the same reason Melissa Barrera was booted from the next Scream sequel.
While it was recently reported by anonymous insiders that Ramirez was dropped from the show because their character was a “waste of airtime” and “annoying,” not everyone believes that. Some think Ramirez isn’t returning for a third season because of the comments they have been recently making on social media about the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza.
“Our industry is so duplicitous,” Ramirez wrote on Instagram earlier this week. “While they give awards away, casting directors and agents are making blacklists of actors and workers who post anything in support of Palestinians in Gaza to ensure they will not work again.”
Last November, Barrera was fired from a planned seventh installment of the Scream movie franchise after she posted a series of social media posts about the war between Israel and Hamas. After she was fired, Barrera defended her comments by saying that she would “continue to speak out for those that need it most and continue to advocate for peace and safety, for human rights and freedom.” Now supporters of Ramirez have started comparing the two actors and their firings.
Some noted that studios “learned nothing with Melissa Barrera” and that they were boycotting And Just Like That.
Others started drawing comparisons to both and how they are Latine and “women of color.”
Some even brought Stranger Things into the mix.
And some asked for the word “allegedly” to be dropped from reports “because we just watched the industry kill the Scream franchise because the lead actress spoke out.”
Since the alleged firing, Sara Ramirez has continued posting about Gaza and the current situation of the Palestinian people.
