The rumors are true. Javier “Chicharito” Hernández is coming home. The 35-year-old Mexican player, who left MLS side LA Galaxy in November, is now set to rejoin the team in which he started his professional career back in 2006. Chivas confirmed the news in a press release.

“ChivaBrothers, it’s official! Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández returns to the team of his amores for the Clausura 2024. We are convinced that his love for the institution, the experience acquired during his successful career and the leadership that characterizes him will be reflected in this new stage with Chivas,” the press release read. Chivas also shared some of Hernández’s stats on its website.

“My home, my family, my team, my everything,” Hernandéz posted in Spanish on X, formerly Twitter, alongside a video confirming he is indeed coming back home. The video continued YouTubers, viral videos which contained dances dedicated to him, his upcoming kit, and more fans just excited for him and his return. “See you soon,” the tweet also read.

ESPN reported Chivas was not Hernández’s only option, as he reportedly had offers from other teams in the MLS, as well as Europe and the Middle East. Hernández, however, chose to return to the team that made him a household name, in the city he grew up in.

Hernández’s last club was LA Galaxy, where he played for four seasons and scored 39 goals in 82 appearances. He was an All-Star in 2022 for LA, but he suffered an ACL injury in June of last year and left the team without playing again.

He previously played in Europe for teams like Manchester United, Real Madrid, Sevilla, West Ham United, and Bayer Leverkusen.
