Ayrton Senna is a tragic figure, better known for his death than his life. But Netflix is looking to change all that with Senna, a new mini-series about the former F1 Champion that will give viewers a look into Ayrton Senna’s life beyond racing. The first look at the mini-series was shown during Netflix’s 2024 Series and Film Preview alongside some behind-the-scenes photos.

The short clip can be seen around 1:27 of the trailer (which is at the bottom of this post), and the little we get to see is cars racing in an F1 track, a checkered flag, Gabriel Leone as Ayrton Senna looking up, and a very ominous voiceover considering what we know of Senna’s ultimate fate, that says: “it’s too risky, but I want to be the champion.”

Netflix’s Senna is set to “depict the journey of overcoming obstacles, ups and downs, joys, and sorrows of Ayrton, exploring his personality and personal relationships.” The show’s starting point is set to be the beginning of Senna’s career, when he moved to England to compete in F1 all the way to the accident that killed him in Imola, Italy, during the San Marino Grand Prix on May 1st of 1994.

Senna was 34 years old when he died in the televised race. He previously won the F1 World Driver’s Championship in 1988, 1990 and 1991.

No release date has yet been announced for Senna, though the 30th anniversary is coming up this May. The cast of the show includes Leone as Senna, as well as Matt Mella, Susana Ribeiro, Julia Foti, Marco Ricca, Camila Márdila, Gabriel Louchard, Christian Malheiros, Hugo Bonemer, Alice Wegmann, and Pâmela Tomé.

Netflix’s 2024 Series and Film Preview also showed a first look at projects from Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, and Sofia Carson.
