George Santos, who is currently under countless legal and ethical investigations, tweeted a response to Josh Lafazan, his potential Democratic opponent in 2024. Santos announced that he was running for reelection on Monday (April 17) despite most voters in his district wanting him to resign from office.
In his tweet, Santos was replying to Lafazan calling him out for the blatant lies he told voters during his last campaign. “Unlike [George Santos], I didn’t have to lie to get elected,” Lafazan wrote. “My credentials are clean, I’m actually Jewish, and unlike yours, my diploma from Harvard is real.”
Santos responded like most people would expect him to respond – with a personal insult. “Real like your chin?” Santos wrote alongside a photo of Lafazan.
Not that he had to, but Lafazan responded by telling Santos why he looks so different today than in the photo Santos posted. “Corrective jaw surgery helped me breathe normally and saved my life,” he wrote. “My insurance covered it, and it’s why I’m fighting so hard for universal health care. You are beneath the office you hold. And I can’t wait to replace you in Congress, in 2024 or sooner. Send postcards from jail.”
Instead of apologizing, Santos ignored Lafazan and called him a “sellout.”
Lafazan’s supporters and others came to his defense after Santos delivered the personal attack.
It’s going to be a long 19 months for George Santos before voters go back to the polls.
