Two of regional Mexican music’s biggest bands have joined forces. On April 21, Banda MS de Sergio Lizárraga teamed up with Fuerza Regida for their “Santo Patrón” music video.
Fuerza Regida is having a breakthrough year. The Mexican-American band currently has three songs on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, including the mega-hit “Bebé Dame” with Grupo Frontera and “Igualito A Mi Apá” with Peso Pluma. Now, Mexican group Banda MS is enlisting Fuerza Regida for their new single.
“Santo Patrón” isn’t the first time Banda MS and Fuerza Regida have worked together. Earlier this month, Fuerza Regida released the music video for “Mentira No Es” featuring Banda MS. Now Fuerza Regida is returning the favor. “Santo Patrón” lives up to its name, with Banda MS’ Alan Ramírez and Fuerza Regida’s Jesús Ortiz Paz praising tequila. The boozy banger blends banda music with a bit of a corridos tumbados twist.
In the “Santo Patrón” music video, Banda MS and Fuerza Regida party together. Ortiz Paz, who is also known as JOP, throws back a few tequila shots with singers of Banda MS.
Last December, Fuerza Regida released two albums: Pa Que Hablen and Sigan Hablando. Both LPs are charting all the all-genre Billboard 200 chart. On July 15, Fuerza Regida will be headlining a concert at Los Angeles’ BMO Stadium.
“We feel really happy. We’ve worked really hard for this,” Ortiz Paz told Remezcla back in March about announcing the stadium date. “We keep on feeling normal, and we keep on selling out more stadiums.”
Last year, Banda MS performed on the main stage at Coachella. The following October, they joined the Call of Duty universe. Banda MS’ song “141″ was included in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. The title was a nod to the Mexican Special Forces’ Task Force 141 in the game, led by the character Alejandro Vargas.
