Becky G is teasing the first taste of her upcoming regional Mexican music album. Yesterday (Mar. 30), she released her new single, “Chanel,” featuring rising Mexican singer and rapper Peso Pluma.
In an interview with Remezcla earlier this month, Becky G revealed that she would be embracing her Mexican roots in her upcoming album. She also said she was working with the new wave of artists redefining the traditional genre, like Ivan Cornejo.
“The songs are also a 200 percent representation,” Becky said. “There’s half of it that’s more inspired by a traditional regional Mexican sound, and then we have another half of it that’s very much new school. It’s so emotional.”
For her new single “Chanel,” she is joining forces with Peso Pluma. As of this week, he has five songs on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart, including the hits “Ella Baila Sola” with Eslabon Armado and “AMG” featuring Gabito Ballesteros and Natanael Cano. On Wednesday (Mar. 29), Becky G teased their collaboration with a photo on Instagram where she wasn’t wearing her engagement ring.
In “Chanel,” Becky G is embracing corridos tumbados with Peso Pluma. Though it’s unknown if the song was inspired by the recent cheating allegations her fiancé Sebastián Lletget faces, she sings in Spanish, “We’re going to accept that you’re over here and I’m over there.” In the emotional track, Becky G trades verses Peso Pluma about understanding that a relationship has run its course.
Becky G’s fans are loving her corridos tumbados detour with Peso Pluma. “Chanel by Becky G ft Peso Pluma blew my expectations, that song is fire,” wrote one fan on Twitter. “What a great combination Becky G and Peso Pluma make,” another fan wrote.
Earlier this week, Becky G won the iHeartRadio Music Award for Best Latin Pop/Reggaeton Song of the Year also for “MAMIII” with Karol G. While accepting the award, she was once again spotted without her engagement ring. Peso Pluma, for his part, will kick off his first U.S. tour next month.
