Anything can happen when you test the limits of love and friendship. In their new collaboration, South Korean singer BIBI and Becky G join forces for “Amigos” to reexamine how close a friendship can get.
The BIBI-led track brings the K-Pop star back into the reggaeton fold with her signature slow, sizzling, and hypnotizing vocals. Together with Becky, the women deliver a dance-floor commanding, bilingual banger about their secret rendezvous as they sing in Spanish, “But if my boyfriend calls / We are friends, nothing more.”
“When I first heard Becky G’s voice in ‘Amigos,’ I fell in love because it was so perfect,” said BIBI via press release, adding that she switched up her style to give the track a darker approach. “Although the lyrics may be somewhat suggestive and promiscuous, I am not that kind of person. As a hopeless romantic, I have a knack for falling head over heels for that one special person, and my loyalty knows no bounds.”
“Everyone knows how much I value collaboration, and this song with BIBI presented a great opportunity for us to adapt our styles and work together,” said Becky G in a statement. “I’m so excited for our fans to experience the crossroads of our creativity that creates an infectious beat that so many will enjoy.”
Creating music at the intersection of Latine and Korean culture is familiar territory for both women. In 2019, Becky G teamed up with BTS darling J-Hope on a trilingual remake of Webstar and Young B’s 2006 hit, “Chicken Noodle Soup,” which they performed together for the first time at last year’s Lollapalooza. Earlier this year, BIBI’s reggaeton-fused single “BIBI Vengence” was refreshed with new verses from Chilean pop singer Princess Alba and rapper Baby Tate.
