Britney Spears recently got a visit from police after posting a video on Instagram dancing with a pair of kitchen knives. Concerned fans called the cops, who conducted a welfare check on the pop star. It turns out the knives were fake, and the dance was inspired by Shakira’s performance at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this month.

“I know I spooked everyone with the last post, but these are fake knives that my team rented from Hand Prop shop in LA,” Spears wrote in a follow-up post on Thursday evening (September 28). “These are not real knives. No one needs to worry or call the police. I’m trying to imitate one of my favorite performers Shakira… a performance I was inspired by!!! Cheers to us bad girls who aren’t afraid to push boundaries and take risks.”

A source told NBC News that Spears was “fine” and said the situation was “overblown.” The source added: “She was expressing her freedom as she continues to do.”

Police responded to another request for a welfare check from fans concerned for Spears earlier this year because of the videos she posts online that some consider bizarre. “I can confirm that we did get calls into our dispatch, and essentially, I can confirm that we don’t believe that Britney Spears is in any kind of harm or any kind of danger,” a police spokesperson said back in January.

Spears also responded to that welfare check by telling fans that the police never entered her home and quickly realized there were no issues. “This felt like I was being gaslit and bullied once the incident made it to the news and being portrayed once again in a poor and unfair light by the media,” she said.
