Jarritos, the Mexican soda brand that has been around since 1950, now comes in a version that contains 5% alcohol.
The new drink, Cantaritos, comes in four flavors: mandarin, pineapple, fruit punch, and tamarind. Cantaritos can be purchased in six or 12-pack glass bottles or in 25-oz. cans.
The name Cantaritos comes from a tequila-based drink made with a mixture of grapefruit soda and orange, lemon, and lime juice. In Mexico, it is traditionally served in a clay cup and is comparable to a Paloma.
There are plenty of people online wondering where they can get their hands on Cantaritos.
For those who have been lucky enough to drink Cantaritos, the consensus seems to be positive. In San Antonio, the food blog Bootleg Food Review got a taste of the drink just in time for the city’s annual Fiesta celebration.
“Your favorite Mexican soda is all grown up,” the host says. “I don’t drink a lot, but these Cantaritos are gonna have me throwing gritos.”
Another TikTok user was surprised he hadn’t heard of Cantaritos, but was looking forward to trying them soon. “I need this in my life,” he says.
Currently, the new drink is only available in California and Texas, but since Jarritos has always been used as an alcohol mixer everywhere, we’re going to assume the product will roll out to more states if it does well in the first two.
Everyone needs something to wash down a half dozen tacos al pastor covered in green salsa, right? Cantaritos seem like they would hit the spot.
