On Drag Race México episode 5, the time came for the queens to show off their pop star chops in the girl group challenge. For the first time ever in Drag Race herstory, the music of Selena Quintanilla was used for the Lip Sync for Your Life. And co-hosts Valentina and Lolita Banana were joined on the judging panel by Óscar Madrazo and Mexican vedette icon Alejandra Bogue.
The episode kicked off with a dance mini-challenge. The 8 remaining queens were tasked with dragging up a pair of boots. They then put on their bedazzled shoes while showing off their pasos prohibidos. Lolita Banana also demonstrated her dirty dance moves and Valentina whipped her hair, easing the tension from the elimination from the previous episode.
In the end, Argennis and Matraka were selected as the winners. The latter also celebrated her birthday with her castmates with a cake and some family storytime to go along with it.
Afterward, Valentina announced that the queens would be competing in two girl groups with the captains being the challenge winners. Argennis assembled the group Las Palanquetas with Gala Varo, Cristian Peralta, and Lady Kero. Matraka then picked Regina Voce, Serena Morena, and Margaret y Ya for her group Las Meximamis. Each group sang the original song “Así Soy Yo” and Las Meximamis appeared to put on a better performance overall.
Even then, it was clear that some of them were nervous and disappeared into the background.
When it came time to hitting the runway this week, the queens had to bring Mexican flowers to the stage. The queen from the “Estelares” clique to place in the top was Gala Varo, who also won the challenge in a beautiful look inspired by Frida Kahlo. And in a shocking turn of events, Matraka also won the Maxi Challenge this week in anl outfit inspired by the peyote cactus that honored her people. This all comes after Regina Voce and Cristian Peralta, had a face-crack moment when they were announced as safe.
Valentina also shaded Vermelha Noir, who was eliminated two weeks ago, by saying it looked like she lent Lady Kero her messy dress.
At the end of Drag Race Mexico, Serena Morena was placed in the bottom two for the third time with Argennis, who sent home Pixie Pixie last week. The two queens lip-synced to Selena Quintanilla’s classic “Amor Prohibido.” Both contestants gave passionate performances, but unfortunately, Serena Morena became the fourth queen to sashay away.
