The nominations for the 2023 Billboard Music Awards were announced today (Oct. 26), and many Latine artists were nominated. Bad Bunny, Peso Pluma, Karol G, Selena Gomez, Eslabon Armado, and Fuerza Regida are among the most-nominated Latine acts.
Bad Bunny and Peso Pluma are tied for most-nominated Latine acts with six nominations each. Peso Pluma appears in the main category for Top New Artist against Ice Spice, who received two nominations of her own, including Top Rap Female Artist. The Mexican superstar is also nominated for Top Latin Artist and Top Latin Male Artist, where he faces Bad Bunny.
In the Top Latin Album category, Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti and Peso Pluma’s Génesis face Karol G’s history-making LP Mañana Será Bonito. The Colombian superstar is tied with Selena Gomez as the most-nominated Latine women, with five nominations each. Karol G is also up for Top Latin Artist, Top Latin Female Artist, and Top Latin Touring Artist. Gomez’s nominations, including Top Collaboration and Top Afrobeats Song, are thanks to the “Calm Down” remix with Rema. Colombian pop icon Shakira received three nominations, including Top Latin Female Artist and Top Latin Song for “TQG” with Karol G.
Among the Latine bands, Eslabon Armado is the most nominated, up for five awards. They’re followed by fellow Mexican-American acts Fuerza Regida and Grupo Frontera with four nominations each. The main category for Top Duo/Group is dominated by música mexicana bands with Eslabon Armado, Fuerza Regida, and Grupo Frontera in the mix. They will face off with legendary rock group Metallica and K-pop act Fifty Fifty. Mexican pop group RBD received one nomination for Top Latin Touring Artist thanks to their successful Soy Rebelde Tour, which recently wrapped the U.S. leg.
The most-nominated artist this year is Taylor Swift, with 20 nominations. The 2023 Billboard Music Awards will stream on BBMAs.watch on Sunday, Nov. 19.
