Twice-impeached and multiple felony-indicted former President Donald Trump has increased his support among Latine voters, and John Leguizamo (The Menu) isn’t very happy that this could help usher him back into the White House this coming election.
While checking in on The Daily Show earlier this week, Leguizamo showed his aggravation over Trump leading with Latine voters in a recent poll. A New York Times/Siena College poll from February 2024 put Trump’s support at 46 percent to Biden’s 40 percent.
“Clearly Trump isn’t making any effort to get Latino voters or making it a priority,” Leguizamo said. “But the thing that hurts me the most is that his lazy-ass strategy is actually working.”
The biggest issue for Latines seems to be the economy where many are concerned with inflation and the rise in cost of living since Biden took office.
“Trump is getting a lot of credit for the pre-pandemic economy,” said Chris Jackson, a senior vice president of public affairs at Ipsos, which recently released a poll showing Biden’s support with Hispanic voters decreasing from 53 percent to 41 percent during his presidency.
Leguizamo, who has always been a staunch critic of Trump, took his frustration out on a burro piñata he had tucked away under his desk. He punched the burro a few times and used some color language in Spanish as he did it. Then, he ripped the piñata in half, which unfortunately contained no candy. Note: Thursday (April 18) is National Piñata Day.
“You really believe Trump can fix inflation?” Leguizamo said. “Look, I’m here to tell you hell madre f—ing not.”
