Juanes returns to his pop-rock groove in his new single “Ojalá.” The Colombian icon continues to explore the struggles he has overcome in his marriage in the colorful music video, which dropped last night (Apr. 13).
“Ojalá” is the third single from Juanes’ upcoming album Vida Cotidiana. With the first two singles, “Amores Prohibidos” and “Gris,” he proved he’s back in his Latine rockstar form. In the music video for “Gris,” he revealed his marriage went through some problems at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. From being stuck at home, Juanes and his wife got into some arguments, which they eventually worked through later.
“Art and music became a catharsis and a cure,” Juanes said in a statement at the time. “This song, ‘Gris,’ describes that very difficult moment I lived in my relationship from a poetic, artistic, and conceptual point of view. It was a very difficult discussion. Fortunately, we were able to pull through, and our love is still strong.”
Juanes appears to touch on that difficult time in his marriage again in “Ojalá.” This time, he evokes his pop-rock days from 2007’s La Vida… Es Un Ratico. Juanes channels his hopes for reconciliation into a feel-good love song. In the nostalgic music video, he revisits the ups and downs of his relationship while riding an elevator.
“It is the most ‘pop’ song on the album, and I love its energy and its lyrics exploring that unexpected, yet instant connection that can happen to anyone at any point in their lives,” Juanes said in a new statement. “The song talks about when you meet someone and they instantly catch your eye, but you can’t be with that person because they have their life made up, and you already have yours.”
Juanes’ Vida Cotidiana album will be released on May 19. From all the singles released so far, it’s becoming one of the most-anticipated Latine LPs of the year.
