The first round of performers has been announced for the 2023 MTV VMAs (Video Music Awards). For the first time, Karol G will be hitting the stage at the event. Other Latine talent performing so far are Demi Lovato and Anitta.
Karol G received three VMA nominations this year. She is up for two major categories, including all-women Artist of the Year. She faces Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, and Shakira in that category. Thanks to “TQG,” Karol G and Shakira are also nominated for Best Collaboration and Best Latin. Hopefully, Karol G will sing “TQG” live for the first time with Shakira as part of her performance.
Lovato is also slated to perform. She received two nominations this year. Her music video for “Swine” is up for Best Pop and Video For Good. On Sep. 15, Lovato will release her album Revamped, featuring rock arrangements of her biggest hits. She will most likely sing the new versions of her previous hits like “Sorry Not Sorry” with Slash or “Confident.”
Anitta is nominated for Best Latin for her “Funk Rave” music video. Rolling Stone revealed that she will perform the music from her audiovisual EP Funk Generation: A Favela Love Story, which dropped last Friday. That release also includes her songs “Used To Be” and “Casi Casi.”
Other artists confirmed to perform include Italian band Måneskin and K-pop group Stray Kids. Taylor Swift is the most-nominated artist of the year, up for eight Moon persons. She is followed by Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Sam Smith, Nicki Minaj, and Olivia Rodrigo, who have six nominations each.
Fans can now vote for their favorite artists. The 2023 MTV VMAs will air live from New Jersey on Sep. 12. We’re still crossing our fingers that Shakira will be announced as this year’s Video Vanguard Award honoree.
