Marc Anthony is the next artist to ride the regional Mexican music wave. The Nuyorican icon teamed up with Mexican superstar Pepe Aguilar for his new music video “Ojalá Te Duela,” released today (Oct. 5).
Marc Anthony has long dominated the salsa music genre with hits like “Vivir Mi Vida” and “Flor Pálida.” He has also pushed that genre to new places through collaborations, including “De Vuelta Pa’ La Vuelta” with Daddy Yankee and “La Fórmula” alongside Maluma. Now he’s completely shifting gears with “Ojalá Te Duela” featuring Aguilar.
“I had this song stored away for a long time and from the first moment I knew that it had to be a ranchera in its purest form,” Marc said in a statement. “I couldn’t think of anyone better than Pepe Aguilar, a giant of this genre and a figure I deeply admire and respect, to join me on this very special project.”
As Marc Anthony mentioned, “Ojalá Te Duela” is a duet fully entrenched in ranchera music. Marc and Aguilar both give emotional performances as they sing about wanting an ex to suffer as much as they did. Marc’s striking voice sounds amazing over the rich mariachi instrumentation. This unexpected duo comes through with a cathartic kiss-off anthem.
“It is a great pleasure and a great honor to be able to produce mariachi and sing a duet with an artist like Marc, and it is also a tremendous song!” Aguilar added. “I’m sure it will be added to the playlists of your parties and your lives…SALUD!”
The music video for “Ojalá Te Duela” was directed by Carlos Pérez of Elastic People. Marc Anthony and Aguilar are shown bringing the sweeping song to life together. They will both perform it live for the first time at the Billboard Latin Music Awards today. The ceremony will air tonight on Telemundo, Universo, Peacock, and the Telemundo App.
