Miguel Bosé, the controversial Spanish singer, shared on Monday  (August 21) that he was the victim of an assault at his Mexico City home this past Friday (August 18).

In an Instagram post, Bosé, who was born in Panama City, Panama, and lives in Mexico City, explained that he was held hostage alongside his two children and house personnel by ten hooded men, who then proceeded to rob him of everything, including his car.

“Dear friends, on Friday night a commando of 10 armed subjects broke into my home, assaulted us, tied my children, the house staff, and myself for more than two hours,” the statement reads. The singer also added that “It was all very tense, tricky, and unpleasant,” but “we are all fine. My children were very brave. Admirable.”

Mexican authorities have opened an investigation into the attack. Though it’s important to note that in a statement by the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office, neither Bosé nor his representatives came forward to report the crime. And that they learned about it on social media.

Bosé, who lives in one of the most exclusive areas in the Mexican Capital, thanked his supporters and also added that he would not be leaving Mexico despite the assault, calling Mexico “the most hospitable country on the planet.”

The singer, a controversial figure for his COVID denialism during the pandemic and his anti-vaccine views, received a wave of supporting messages since the news of his assault broke. Mexican singer Alejandro Fernández and Colombian stars Carlos Vives and Fonseca, among others, left comments on his Instagram post.

“Migue, all my solidarity to you and your family. I’m sending you a hug, and we’re glad you’re all okay,” Vives wrote in Spanish, with Alejandro Fernández saying in Spanish as well, “I’m sending you a big hug, dear Miguel. Nothing is lost if you’re all safe and sound.”
