It appears that everyone wants a piece of Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us). According to Deadline, Netflix and Amazon are currently in a bidding war for what could possibly be his next movie, Crime 101. Chris Hemsworth’s (Thor: Love and Thunder) name is also floating around as Pascal’s co-star, although there haven’t been any official deals made.
Crime 101 is based on the 2021 novella by Don Winslow of the same name, which follows a detective on the trail of an evasive jewel thief. It is still unknown which actor would play which role, but we’re rooting for Pascal to be the character with the bag full of diamonds.
The film will be directed by Bart Layton (American Animals) and will apparently cost the winning bidder approximately $100 million. Deadline is reporting that Amazon “appears to have the edge.”
Deadline adds: “It’s a great crime story in the vein of Heat.”
Even when the final deal is signed, Hollywood is still at a standstill, so it’s likely that Crime 101 will sit in limbo until the studios and SAG-AFTRA and the WGA lock themselves in a room and come to an agreement on a new pair of contracts. Until then, we can only imagine Pascal and Hemsworth matching up on a big project like this.
Pedro Pascal fans will get their fix on The Mandalorian star in a couple of months when his short Western, Strange Way of Life, directed by Oscar winner Pedro Almodóvar (Talk to Her), hits theaters in New York City and Los Angeles on October 4, 2023. The film will then expand nationwide on October 6 and then start streaming on MUBI on October 20.
