Ralph Barbosa is coming to Netflix. His stand-up special, Ralph Barbosa: Cowabunga, will premiere globally on October 31, 2023. The one-hour special was shot this past summer during a stop in Dallas for the comedian’s North American tour.
According to the press release: “Ralph Barbosa: Cowabunga is a glimpse into the world of this 26-year-old gamer as he shares stories of growing up with his grandparents, running a hair cutting business out of his bedroom as a 13-year-old, why he asked his dad if he needed to go to the moon to return moon rocks, and his fantasy of being passenger prince to his street-racing dream girl.”
It’s been a busy year for Barbosa. He made his debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in January and quickly built a large following. He currently has over 600,000 followers on Instagram, over 500,000 followers on TikTok, and over 400,000 subscribers on YouTube. His Comedy Central stand-up special Featuring: Ralph Barbosa was seen more than three million times on YouTube.
Barbosa is facetiously described as “one of the shyest attention hogs to ever do comedy.”
After his hit Tonight Show appearance, Barbosa made more headlines when fellow comedian George Lopez angered people on his podcast by downplaying Barbosa’s popularity.
“Nobody knows who that motherf—er is! Why are you saying his name?” Lopez said when Barbosa’s name was brought up on his podcast. “Is it wrong to say, ‘Why you keep bringing his name up if nobody knows who he is?’ I don’t mean it mean.”
Barbosa responded to the clip soon after: “It’s all good baby,” he posted on social media. “The future is now old man.”
