Rauw Alejandro is helping reggaeton permeate the English-language music market. The Puerto Rican superstar was tapped by Pharrell Williams for his new music video “Airplane Tickets,” released today (Dec. 8). The collaboration also features Rae Sremmurd‘s Swae Lee.
In February, Williams became the creative director for Louis Vuitton Men. On Nov. 30, he teased a preview of his collaboration with Rauw Alejandro and Swae Lee at Louis Vuitton Men’s Pre-Fall 2024 runway show in Hong Kong. Now, “Airplane Tickets” has finally been released.
Williams stays ahead of the rest of the music game with the genre-bending love song “Airplane Tickets.” He seamlessly blended elements of reggaeton, afrobeats, and hip-hop. Swae Lee sings in English about living the literal high life in the sky. Rauw Alejandro comes in at the halfway point and sings in Spanish about inviting his lover on a luxurious trip. He then sings the chorus in English with Swae.
The music video for “Airplane Tickets” was also shot in Hong Kong while Williams was there for the Louis Vuitton Men’s fashion show. Rauw Alejandro and Swae Lee are shown performing the song in the city streets. Along with Williams, they’re also wearing fresh fits from the Louis Vuitton Men’s Fall 2024 collection.
“Airplane Tickets” is rumored to be included on an upcoming album from Williams called Phriends, Vol. 1. Earlier this year, Rauw Alejandro released the RR EP with his ex-fiancée Rosalía. He then followed that up in July with Playa Saturno, a sequel to his 2022 album Saturno. After canceling the Latin American Leg of his Saturno World Tour, he announced his Club Saturno: El Último Party shows. His last four concerts of the year will take place from Dec. 14 to 17 at El Choli in Puerto Rico.
