Only a few days after a trailer for a new true-crime docuseries aired about late Tejano superstar Selena, the Quintanilla family is speaking out. The Oxygen series, Selena & Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them, is centered around a new interview from behind bars with Selena’s killer, Yolanda Saldívar.
According to Selena’s dad, Abraham Quintanilla, the Quintanilla family is not involved with the project nor do they support it in any way. TMZ recently spoke to the patriarch of the family. TMZ didn’t quote Quintanilla in its article but writes that he “wants absolutely nothing to do with Yolanda herself … cause everything she says is nothing but lies, and no one’s gonna believe what she has to say anyway.”
Quintanilla is also paraphrased by TMZ who says he “wonders what more she has to say that she hasn’t already” and that “everyone knows there’s zero truth to anything that comes out of her mouth.”
A press release from Oxygen describes the new series as an effort by Saldivar and some of her family to “discuss the two women and share never-before-revealed documents and recordings … to show there was more to the tragedy than the public knows.”
“I knew her secrets,” Saldívar says in the docuseries trailer. “And I think the people deserved to know the truth.”
Saldívar is currently incarcerated for life but is eligible for parole on March 30, 2025.
The first episode of the two-part docuseries Selena & Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them premieres on February 17 at 8 p.m. ET. The series concludes on Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. ET. Episodes will be available to stream on Peacock the day after they air.
