Shakira is leaving her ex Gerard Piqué behind in Spain and moving forward with her life after he reportedly cheated on her after nearly 11 years together. Miami is now going to be her home.
After their separation, Shakira and Piqué signed a custody agreement for their two sons, Milan and Sasha. As part of the agreement, Shakira reportedly revealed her intentions to uproot their kids from Barcelona to live with her side of the family in Miami. Piqué was also reported to receive 10 days a month and a few holidays to spend with Milan and Sasha.
On Sunday (April 2), Shakira finally put her plan in motion to move with their sons to Miami.
First, in her Instagram stories, she posted a photo from the plane. “But things are not always as we dream them,” she wrote. “Sometimes we run, but we don’t get there. Never doubt that I’ll be here…”
On her Instagram grid, Shakira posted a photo of Barcelona. She wrote about the experience of raising her sons there and moving on. “Today we begin a new chapter in the search for your happiness,” she added. “Thanks to everyone who surfed so many waves with me there in Barcelona, the city where I learned that friendship is undoubtedly longer than love. Thanks to everyone who encouraged me there, dried my tears, inspired me and made me grow.”
In another post on Twitter, Shakira appeared to hit back at Piqué when he mentioned that she was “Latino americana” while talking about their past relationship during an interview. In what is seen as being xenophobic by some online, he said, “My ex-partner is Latin American and you don’t know what I get on social networks from people who are fans of hers. Thousands of barbarities and I don’t care at all.”
In her post, Shakira wrote, “I’m proud to be Latin American.” She also included emojis of flags from several Latin American countries.
As for “BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” Pique called it “beef” instead of what it truly was aka Shakira speaking her peace and standing up for herself. In January 2023, her diss track against Piqué and Martí debuted at No. 9 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart.
