Celebrating its 20th-anniversary last night (July 20), Premios Juventud 2023 took place at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in Puerto Rico. This year, the exciting award show was co-hosted by Ángela Aguilar, Alejandra Espinoza, Marcus Ornellas, and Dayanara Torres. During the “Exprésate a tu Manera” (Express Yourself Authentically)-themed show, many up-and-coming and prominent artists performed and received awards for their hits and overall work in the music industry.

Last night’s bigger winner was Shakira, who took home eight out of her nine nominated awards. The awards she received included Best Pop/Urban Song and Best Song For My Ex for her hit collaboration “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” with Bizarrap, as well as Girl Power, Best Urban Track, and Best Pop/Urban Collaboration for her smash joint track “TQG” with Karol G and Premios Juventud Female Artist. It was a huge night for the Colombian superstar, who also received the Agent of Change award for her philanthropic efforts through her Pies Descalzos Foundation.

Runner-ups for the most-awarded artists include Karol G with six wins and Peso Pluma with five. Besides the awards mentioned above with Shakira, Karol G’s recognitions include winning My Favorite Streaming Artist and Best Urban Album – Female for Mañana Será Bonito. As for Peso Pluma, his newly-earned awards include Premios Juventud Male Artist, Best Regional Mexican Album for Sembrando, and Best Regional Mexican Collaboration for “PRC” with Natanael Cano.

Other notable wins include Eslabon Armado, who won Best Regional Mexican Song for “Ella Baila Sola” alongside Peso Pluma. Mexican pop stars also had a huge moment: Danna Paola won for Female Artist On The Rise and Kenia Os won for New Generation – Female Artist, I Want More, and Best Fandom.

Moreover, Bad Bunny won Best Urban Album – Male for his epic album Un Verano Sin Ti, Best Trap Song for “Coco Chanel” featuring Eladio Carrión, and Best Regional Mexican Fusion for “Un X100to” with Grupo Frontera. 

Besides music, Camila Cabello, who spoke about climate change, was another winner who took home an Agent of Change. She shared her acceptance speech with Puerto Rican climate activist Isabel Valentín, who talked about fighting against the exploitation of the island’s environmental resources.
