The competition is coming down to the wire on episode 9 of Drag Race México!

This time around the queens were tasked with flexing their funny bone in a stand-up comedy challenge. And after the non-elimination last week, co-hosts Valentina and Lolita Banana selected one queen to unfortunately sashay away. As for the judging panel, they were joined by season regular Óscar Madrazo and new guest and comedian Manu NNa.

For this week’s mini-challenge, the five remaining queens took on the Everybody Loves Puppets challenge. They each selected a puppet that resembled their competitors and dragged them up.

Matraka admitted that Regina Voce did a great job styling the puppet after her, pom poms and jewels included. And Matraka herself had the whole group laughing with her nearly nude Gala Varo puppet. And Lady Kero gave her Cristian Peralta doll a bright pink wig that felt out of place with Galo Varo returning the favor with a Lady Kero with bright green hair.

Matraka and Regina Voce both won the mini-challenge. They also won the privilege of selecting the running order for the comedy challenge.

When it was time to hit the comedy stage for the next challenge, Gala Varo went first with a routine where she portrayed her dog. As we saw with Lady Kero later on, playing another character resulted in lackluster performances.

Regina Voce went second and pretended to receive a phone call from RuPaul about encouraging her to compete on Drag Race. She had the judges cracking up with her portrayal of RuPaul’s gringa Spanish. Matraka also used her routine to playfully call out colorism in the Mexican community. “I’ve come here to remind you that young, dark-skinned women do it better,” she said.

Cristian Peralta stood out during her routine due to her honesty. The judges were in stitches when she talked about sharing clothes with her partner. Cristian Peralta also hilariously compared her pansexual identity to a love of “pan,” or “bread” in Spanish. It was so spot on that even Madrazo got emotional while talking with Cristian Peralta because he could relate to her as a queer parent.

Over on the runway, Valentina was stunning in a dress that recalled Thalia’s flower power looks of the ‘90s. The theme was Picante.

Matraka channeled Thalia with her “Sangre”-inspired look. Cristina Peralta got a little ‘horny’ with her red outfit, Lady Kero went the way of the vampire with blood pouring out her mouth, and Regina Voce looked like an actual pepper. As for Gala Varo, her runway lacked form and the wig was falling apart.

After critiques, Cristian Peralta won her fourth Maxi Challenge and she is now leading the competition. That means that Gala Varo and Lady Kero landed in the bottom two and lip-synched to Daniela Romo’s “De Mi Enamórate.”

After both giving passionate performances, Lady Kero, unfortunately, became the seventh queen to sashay away.
