Tijuana Mayor Alleges Peso Pluma Canceled Concert After Threats

It appears that Peso Pluma may cancel his show in Tijuana, Mexico, after all. Last week, Mexican news outlets reported news of an organized crime group targeting the skyrocketing artist ahead of his upcoming event at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana, scheduled for Oct. 14. Now, the city’s mayor claims that Peso Pluma canceled the concert.

“On behalf of the singer, he announced on his official website, I understand, the event’s cancellation. On our behalf, in the proceedings that had been made before the banners, the proceedings are still on,” the mayor of Tijuana, Montserrat Caballero, said during an interview with Grupo Fórmula. “However, we will verify in the coming days.”

When the radio host asked if it was 100 percent officially confirmed that he canceled, the mayor said it was only based on a press release that was published on his official website. However, it’s unclear which official website since Peso Pluma only has social media accounts.

Remezcla reached out to Peso Pluma’s team for clarification. We will update this story if they respond.

Moreover, the mayor mentioned that the prosecutor’s office hasn’t determined whether the threats’ source is legitimate. Because of that, they didn’t move forward with canceling Peso Pluma’s show. Caballero also revealed that the man who was arrested after being suspected of hanging the banners is already free because he didn’t have anything to do with the incident. She also said that she’ll have a confirmed answer on whether the concert is happening or not in the next weeks, though she’s 90 percent sure it won’t happen.

However, it’s possible that the show will go on. Though it’s not confirmed if the two are related, Peso Pluma wrote on his social media: “Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet 🙏🏻.”

At the end of the interview, she affirmed that the concert would take place if the Mexican singer was still willing to perform.
