Plans for the second season of Wednesday are gearing up, and it looks like the hit Netflix series is going to be making a big move for the start of production. According to Deadline, Wednesday is heading from Romania to Ireland for season 2. Variety has confirmed that the series could start shooting as soon as April 2024.
Nevermore Academy has since become a hot spot for fans of Wednesday, with many fans making sure to visit Cantacuzino Castle in Romania. The castle was the location for the outside shots of the Netflix series. The interior scenes were also filmed in Romania in various locations such as Casa Monteoru, the Politehnica University of Bucharest, and the Bucharest Botanical Garden.
The series was renewed for a second season earlier this year. “It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world,” said creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar at the time. “Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”
The first season of Wednesday follows the title character (Jenna Ortega), the eldest child of Gomez and Morticia Addams (Luis Guzmán and Catherine Zeta-Jones). When Wednesday is expelled from public school, her parents send her to their alma mater, Nevermore Academy, where they hope she can make friends with other outcasts.
During its first season, Wednesday broke a handful of Netflix records, and Ortega went viral for a particular dance she performed to “Goo Goo Muck” by The Cramps, which was later replaced on viral videos with a speedier version of Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary.”
Earlier this year, Ortega said she was excited about the new direction the second season of Wednesday is planning to go.
“It’s still coming together, but we’ve decided we want to lean into the horror more,” she said. “We’re ditching any romantic love interest, which is really great.”
