The energy inside the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum was brimming over Saturday (May 6) night at WWE Backlash when a couple of surprise guests (and legends) made their way to the ring during the “San Juan Street Fight” between Bad Bunny and Damian Priest.
Savio Vega and Carlito showed up to help Bad Bunny after Finn Balor and Dominik Mysterio entered the ring to stop the “Tití Me Preguntó” superstar from beating Priest with a metal chair. Rey Mysterio showed up first to defend Bad Bunny but was quickly outmanned by Balor and his son.
Then, Carlito ran to the ring and both he and Rey Mysterio gave a beat down to Balor and Dominik.
Soon after, Balor and Dominik tried to flee backstage, but ran into Vega who was making his way to the ring to join the action.
After WWE Backlash, Vega gave Bad Bunny credit for winning the match against Priest, which happened after all the dust settled. “[Bad Bunny] did a great match,” he said. “He fought like a king! He defended his castle, did what he had to do, and beat Damian Priest.”
Carlito added: “It was great to be out there with my boys. Bad Bunny is such a legend and he showed you why. He’s at the top of his game, he’s a hell of a superstar in all different facets.”
Savio Vega joined the WWE, then known as the WWF, in the early 1990s, “at the same time that future WWE icons like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Rock and Triple H were first emerging.” His last appearance at a WWE event was for the 2020 Survivor Series when The Undertaker made his final farewell. But even before that, he was known in the world of Puerto Rican professional wrestling as TNT.
Carlito, also known as Carlito Carribean Cool, was last seen in a WWE ring in 2021 for a RAW match where he teamed up with Jeff Hardy to defeat Elias and Jaxson Ryker. He was in the WWE from 2004 until 2010, when he was fired for violating the WWE Wellness Program “and his subsequent refusal to attend a rehabilitation facility.” And if the reaction by the crowd at the 2023 Backlash is any indication, fans would love to see more of him.
