A new live-action Spider-Man movie is in the pipeline at Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE). According to producer Amy Pascal, the live-action movie will feature Miles Morales, the version of Spider-Man in the animated Spider-Verse.
“You’ll see all of it,” Pascal told Variety at the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse premiere in Los Angeles. “It’s all happening.”
Pascal and producer Avi Arad said the studio is also planning a Spider-Woman movie “sooner than you expect,” but was short on details. “I cannot tell you yet, but it’s coming,” Arad said.
That’s not all the Spider-Man movies fans are going to get. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hasn’t even hit theaters yet (it premieres June 2), but the animated trilogy will be completed next year with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Pascal also revealed that a fourth Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland and Zendaya is in development. However, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike has stopped its development. “Are we going to make another movie? Of course, we are,” Pascal told Variety. “We’re in the process, but the writers’ strike, nobody is working during the strike. We’re all being supporters and whenever they get themselves together, we’ll get started.”
Tom Rothman, CEO of SPE, was less forthcoming about a live-action Spider-Verse movie. “If I told you, I’d have to kill you,” he told Variety laughing.
In the latest, animated Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Miles Morales’ Spider-Man (Shameik Moore) and Gwen Stacy’s Spider-Woman (Hailee Steinfeld) enter the Spider-Verse where they meet a whole new group of Spider-People and go head-to-head with The Spot (Jason Schwartzmann), a villain with interdimensional portals covering his body.
Now that we know there is a live-action Miles Morales Spider-Man movie coming our way, who would you like to see portray the Afro-Latino webslinger?
