There have been at least a dozen film, TV, and video game adaptations of 19th-century French writer Jules Verne’s science fiction novel Journey to the Center of the Earth in more than 60 years. From the original movie of the same name in 1959 to the 2008 remake starring Brenden Fraser, the subterranean adventure has kept generations of sci-fi nerds entertained for generations.

Now, a new version of the classic story from Latin America has premiered on Disney+. The latest Journey to the Center of the Earth (Viaje Al Centro De La Tierra), is an 8-episode sci-fi series starring Spanish actor Óscar Jaenada (Cantinflas), Colombian actress Margarita Rosa de Francisco (Narcos), Argentine actor Gabriel Goity (En la mira), and Mexican actors Yankel Stevan (Santiago) and Sebastián García (Corazonada).

According to a Disney press release, the official synopsis describes it as a series that “follows a group of kids on a voyage through a parallel dimension in which they discover a fascinating world and fight to protect the ecological balance of the planet.”

In the new Journey to the Center of the Earth, which was shot entirely in Mexico, Diego (García) and his siblings and friends find a mysterious portal that leads to another dimension. Connected to the portal is a powerful family secret that Diego must protect from those who want to destroy the interdimensional realm they have discovered.

Below are the trailers for the new series – one in Spanish and another dubbed in English. Journey to the Center of the Earth (Viaje Al Centro De La Tierra) is currently streaming on Disney+.
