Is Bad Bunny’s ‘El Muerto’ Still Happening? — Here’s the Latest

It’s been a few months since we’ve heard any news about Bad Bunny’s upcoming superhero movie, El Muerto. But now, it seems that we have a date for the start of production.

According to Production List, a film and TV production tracking service compiled by the Film & Television Industry Alliance, the start date for El Muerto is August 7, 2023, in Los Angeles. The project summary for the feature film reads: “A wrestler gains super power through a mystical mask who originally fought Spider-Man in a charity wrestling match in which he nearly unmasked the webslinger before being stung by Spider-Man with a paralyzing poison.”

The last time Bad Bunny talked about El Muerto was in late March 2023 during an interview with TIME magazine. He told the publication that filming had not yet occurred. Benito’s publicist also stated that the film was “at a standstill” but later clarified and said it was “in development.”

The “Tití Me Preguntó” singer also joked about what might happen to his role as the title character. “Maybe they’ll switch me out for Pedro Pascal,” he said.

Director Jonás Cuarón (Desierto) will be behind the camera for the production. Cuarón is the son of Oscar-winning Mexican director, Alfonso Cuarón (Roma). During an interview with Remezcla in April about his latest film, Chupa, Cuarón was mum about El Muerto.

So, even though we now have a production date, there are still plenty of questions we have about the details behind the project. Hopefully, we’ll hear more soon in the weeks to come. Bad Bunny has experience in the wrestling ring, of course, so we’re sure he can shine in this new and exciting role.
