Xavi is getting a taste of stardom. After meeting Karol G earlier this year, the Colombian pop star invited the emerging música mexicana artist to perform at her third sold-out Mañana Será Bonito show at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico (Feb. 10).
“We don’t have a song together yet. But I enjoyed his songs all December,” La Bichota said when introducing Xavi. “I ran into him somewhere. He told me when we were going to do something, I told him I would love to have him here.”
She continued: “He told me that he has never sung in his country, in Mexico. And I told him that I was sure that the moment he started singing here, el estadio se iba a caer, and he was going to be proud of who he is.”
The Estadio Azteca crowd roared as the recognizable guitar strings of Xavi’s hit song “La Diabla” started to play. The young artist came out and hugged La Bichota. The two danced and performed the song together. Karol added a feminine touch, adding backup vocals to the chorus of Xavi’s most popular song to date.
After the first song, Karol reiterated how happy she was for Xavi to be singing with her that night. “It’s incredible to see how personitas like him have taken the flag of this country to another level, charting globally above many,” she tells her audience about Xavi. Before requesting another song, she told him he was one of the most talented people she’s seen on that stage and expressed admiration for his vocals. She then asked him to sing “La Víctima.”
In another social media video, Xavi’s mother is seen reacting to his son on stage. She looks emotional, covering her mouth, and appears to be shaking.
Up next, Xavi is starting his first-ever tour at the Auditorio BB in Mexico City (Mar. 28) and in Guadalajara, Mexico (Mar. 30). Then, he will go on tour in the U.S., which is already sold out. On the other hand, Karol G announced she’s releasing a new collaboration with Tiësto on Feb. 14. She’s also set to continue her Latin America tour dates in Monterrey, Mexico, on Feb. 16.
