The Latin Recording Academy has selected a group of legends to honor at this year’s ceremony. Today (July 18), Argentine rock group Soda Stereo, Spanish icon Ana Torroja, and Mexican balladeer Mijares, among others, were announced as this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipients. Gustavo Santaolalla will be honored with one of the Trustees Awards.

As part of the Latin Grammy Award celebrations, the Lifetime Achievement Award is given out annually to artists for their outstanding contributions to music. Last year’s honorees included Amanda Miguel, Myriam Hernández, and late Brazilian rock icon Rita Lee

The 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award includes Soda Stereo, one of the main bands that lead the rock en español movement in Argentina and beyond. The group’s lead singer Gustavo Cerati passed away in 2014. Other honorees include Cuban-American jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, Ana Torroja, Carmen Linares, Mijares, and Simone.

Moreover, Argentine musician Gustavo Santaolalla will be one of this year’s Trustees Award recipients. He has made important strides for Latines in music, film, and television. He won the Academy Award twice for Best Original Score. He received a second Primetime Emmy Award nomination this year for Outstanding Music Composition For A Series for his music in HBO series The Last Of Us. Alex Acuña and Wisón Torres will join Santaolalla as this year’s Trustees Awards honorees.

“We are extremely honored for the opportunity to recognize these great figures of Ibero-America, whose musical legacy continues to inspire new generations,” Manuel Abud, the CEO of The Latin Recording Academy, said in a statement. “We look forward to celebrating their virtuoso careers during Latin GRAMMY® Week in Sevilla this coming November.”

The Lifetime Achievement Award and Trustees Award will be honored in a private event as part of Latin GRAMMY Week on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023. The special event will take place at the Teatro Lope de Vega in Sevilla, Spain.
